About the Flag

Unia is a Swiss trade union having members from very different industries, trades and services. It was formed in 2004 by a merger of five smaller unions (SMUV, GBI, VHTL, the old "unia", and "actions"). It has about 200,000 members, thus being by far the largest Swiss trade union. It is part of the SGB/USS federation of trade unions.

The logo is a slightly rounded red square with the name in white, the "i" formed by a combination of "1" and "i", thus playing with the name that recalls "un/une" or "uno/una".

The flag is a variation of the logo, being white with a slightly rounded red square; the name in the flag is displayed diagonally

The old "unia"

The old "unia" (all in lower case letters) was a trade union founded in 1996, active in the services (tertiary) sector; originally, it was a joint project of SMUV, GBI and "actions" (a local union in Geneva). In 2004, it merged with SMUV, GBI, VHTL and "actions" to form the new trade union "Unia".

The logo was the union name in black (the "i" painted in turquoise) over the additional long names in the three languages (Die
Dienstleistungs-Gewerkschaft / Le syndicat du secteur tertiaire / Il sindacato del settore terziario = The union of the tertiary sector).

The flag was white with the logo [1,2,3].
